Shelina Permalloo, a well-known British Mauritian TV chef and author, was recently interviewed by Maldives Halal Travel. Shelina, who won the 2012 season of BBC MasterChef and is well-known for her love of cooking, and is the author of two cookbooks: Sunshine on a Plate and The Sunshine Diet. She delighted us with her insights about the Maldivian experience, culture, and, of course, the distinctive flavors of the islands during our talk.
Shelina chose the Maldives as her vacation destination in substantially due to her passion for the Indian Ocean. She stated, "The reason why I wanted to travel to the Maldives is because of the Indian Ocean. I know Mauritius is home for me, and I wanted to explore all the other islands that are surrounded by Mauritius. I’ve never travelled to the Maldives before. I’ve seen the glorious pictures, and I'm just so interested in learning more about Maldivian culture but most importantly, Maldivian flavors."
Shelina emphasized the importance of safety, beauty, and rich cultural experiences when choosing a travel destination. "Some of the most important things that I need to look for when choosing a travel destination are somewhere safe, somewhere beautiful, somewhere that has incredible flavor, and most importantly, a place where I can see culture and experience it," she said.
As a professional chef, Shelina very enthusiastic about the Maldives' cuisine. She emphasized the distinctive methods for preparing tuna, a staple of Maldivian cuisine. "The Maldives makes me so excited as a professional chef. The flavors I love are chili, the tuna, and the coconut. These three items are quintessential to the island. What I love the most is how unique and interesting the ways of cooking tuna are: dried, smoked, cured, cooked in curries, made into sweets — it's a real preservation of this incredible fish from the sea. It's really revered, and I love to see that."
Shelina had a positive message for Muslim tourists thinking about visiting the Maldives. "When I'm looking for places to travel with my family, I want somewhere safe, somewhere that's going to have an interesting culture, and somewhere that is beautiful. For me, the Maldives is all of that. And more importantly, everything is halal!"
In conclusion, Shelina Permalloo's tales and experiences demonstrate that the Maldives is a place that provides tourists with an extensive range of mouthwatering delicacies in addition to heavenly natural beauty and diverse cultures. The Maldives offers something unique to offer everyone, whether they are professional chefs or just foodies.
