Mohamed Solah, a seasoned Maldivian hotelier, has been named the new Chief Operating Officer of the top regional hospitality business by Crown & Champa Resorts (CCR).
One of the few Maldivian general managers working overseas is Solah, who recently left his position as Cluster General Manager of Zaya Hospitality in Dubai. When he accepted the position at CCR’s Komandoo Island resort in 2018, he also became one of the Maldives’ youngest general managers.
His career had modest beginnings when he joined CCR’s Meeru Island Resort in 2002 as a telephone operator/receptionist. Over the next two decades, he has held numerous managerial positions in the business.
Prior to his most recent position with Zaya Hospitality in Dubai, Solah held the position of Rooms Operations Manager at Zaya Nurai Island in Abu Dhabi from 2015 to 2017.
Solah completed management training at the Sheraton Langkawi Beach Resort and the Hilton Seychelles while pursuing a Bachelor’s (Hons) Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Studies at Taylor’s University in Malaysia.
The most prestigious program in the world for general managers was finished by Solah at Cornell University in New York. He also holds a French language diploma from the Paris-based EF Executive Language Institute.
Given that he began his career more than 20 years ago at a CCR property, the new appointment completes the cycle.
The Crown & Champa Resorts collection, led by the forerunners of Maldives tourism, offers holiday options across 10 hotels, from luxury resorts to a city hotel. As the Maldives marks the 50th anniversary of its tourist business, having a local in charge of an established hotel chain will be invaluable because of their unwavering dedication to developing Maldivian talent.
